Our Story
Launched in 2025, Peer Genius is the result of Melanie Bailey’s more than 25 years of experience in education, including extensive work in both mainstream schools and a hospital school supporting children who are unable to attend their mainstream setting. Throughout her career as a qualified teacher and private tutor, Melanie has been inspired by the power of relatable role models and the transformative potential of peer-to-peer learning.
“After years of teaching and tutoring, I began to notice something important. Many students didn’t need another explanation—they needed someone they could relate to. They needed someone close enough in age to understand the pressures they were facing and to help them believe that they could succeed.”
That observation became the foundation of Peer Genius, built on the belief that confidence begins with connection.

At Peer Genius, we believe that one of the most powerful ways for young people to grow in confidence is through connection with someone who understands their journey.
Our peer tutors and mentors are carefully selected because they have something valuable to share. Some have navigated their own learning challenges, developing resilience and empathy that enables them to support others. Others are high-achieving students who inspire through their dedication, knowledge and passion for learning.
What unites them is their ability to relate, encourage and motivate — helping young people see what is possible when they are supported by someone who understands their journey.
Through peer learning, young people develop subject knowledge alongside the confidence to ask questions, embrace challenges and make progress.
